Hi everybody went to the dog feast on Saturday last ,live southport and went via runcorn, the roadworkS awful and towing wasn't easy , worth avoiding if you can and need to go that way
Traffic across THE BRIDGE (it is what the local road signs call it, capitals & all) was always prone to be pants. With the changes to the road network needed for the new bridge (opens back end next year hopefully) the area is a mess of road works. Runcorn is now known as Runcone.
When the new bridge opens the old one will close for a good dose of looking at. Likely to be 2020 before Runcone reverts to Runcorn.
My dad worked on the existing bridge in 1960/61 to replace the old transporter bridge. I was 8 at the time and I remember him taking us to cross on the transporter. You drove onto a hanging platform that then moved over the river. then loaded up and came back. That shows how much traffic has changed in 50 yrs. now the "new " bridge isn't good enough and they need another.
Although I don't use it often THE BRIDGE can be a piece of pie or pure murder. All the roadworks at the moment aren't helping.
Went over a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't too bad - although my SAT NAV kept telling me to go straight ahead at roundabouts that are now lights.
