Personal care is funded. It's thecresidential part she will have to find. Ideally by her savings for the first couple of years and possibly by letting the house.

She wants to gift her2 grandsons money for first cars, etc but I'm worried if this is above a certain amount it could be clawed back ?!

Yes, it can be clawed back, but there's a certain amount she can give freely. I'm not sure what it is, someone will know, and I think she can give a bigger amount as a wedding present.

Have you tried contacting Age Scotland/ UK? - their website is full of useful information and there is a helpline

You say she is in an assessment bed at the moment. Has she been assessed for CHC, if she has health needs and a primary health need is the reason she has to go into care, she may be eligible for Continued Healthcare funding on the NHS, there is lots of information on the Care To Be Different website:

http://caretobedifferent.co.uk/

Things like risk of falls, continence, mental health issues, behavioural issues, medication etc are all included in the domains that are assessed for this, read up on it, it really is worth it.

Even if she does not currently qualify (and believe me, they will try to make sure that you think you won't!) you can ask for her to be assessed again if her health needs increase.

Hope this helps, and sorry for your troubles, it can be very stressful, as we know right now with our mother currently in a psychiatric assessment unit, the last six months have for us been a rollercoaster with it all too.

Sending love, hope you get her sorted as best you can.

Jane.

Thank you again everyone, but as she is in Scotland the Care to be Different Website is not applicable, however I will look carefully at it as she does suffer from incontinence, failure to take meds , falls and general immobility, as well as poor vision.

It's really hard as she wants to help out my kids - my husband is not working now( he had to hand in his notice) as he has advanced aggressive cancer.

The fact that she is 500 miles away makes things harder as I don't drive and my husband is not always well enough to drive that far.

Whatever happens, tricky times lie ahead and no doubt I will keep coming on here for help and support..

Thank you all again!
