Had a bit of a prang a few weeks ago (somebody ran into the back of me and messed up our boot lock). I had a hire car while our car was in the garage and OH has fallen in love with the digital radio. He likes listening to the cricket.
I had a look with the help of google and found out that I can get a digital radio for his car - would probably go for freestanding rather than retrofit, but haven't a clue about what to get
I wonder if any expert types on here would be willing to advise? I've got a bit of time as was thinking of doing it for his birthday which isn't 'til the end of October.
Hi Sean, would an ordinary domestic radio work in a moving car? I've been looking at ones that work via the USB connection, but there are so many I get confused...
I was very disappointed with the last Roberts radio that I bought, and was ignored by their customer 'service'. I'm much more a fan of "Pure" DAB radios. I use a small "Pure" portable (which uses a USB connector for power) in the camper, and it's pretty good, but only when you're stopped as it needs the aerial extended!
Mrs. L has a DAB radio in her car and it's quite disappointing too. Coverage is patchy at best and sound quality not as good as FM.

Hi, thanks to everyone who replied. Superhoops' suggestion is what I'll go for and I've found someone to fit it. Now just need to decide if I do it now or wait until his birthday.

I have DAB on my latest car. Only thing I have found with it when driving in rural areas is it just goes silent if no signal is found, then it has to go back to FM or wait till I am back in range. The sound quality is excellent I have to say.

And no CD player, The sales bloke asked if I wanted him to link the music on my phone to the infotainment on the car. The blank look on my face told him I had no idea what he was talking about.
No CD player even available these days Geoff on the Yeti (AFAIK).
Our sources are:
Radio (AM/FM), SD card, Bluetooth (phone's music to the car), internet music via the usual apps.
The little SD card has the equivalent of about 30 CD's on it, ripped at a quality more than good enough for my ears travelling in a car. And a lot neater, as no discs to house.

Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
