I have just had my car insurance renewal quote (Lloyds Bank). At the present time I am paying £180 (£15 a month). The new quote was for £240 (£20 a month). I contacted Lloyds and they immediately reduced that to £227 (£19 a month).
I went onto a comparison site and have now been quoted £166 (£14 a month) with Halifax (£1 a month cheaper than I am presently paying with Lloyds). I was actually with Halifax just before going to Lloyds last year because Lloyds were cheaper...absolute madness.
Why insurance companies cannot treat their existing customers better than they do defeats me. I obviously won't be staying with Lloyds although I will give them one chance to price match which I doubt they will do.
They generally give new customers their best price then increase it later.
You can improve it also by using cashback sites.
I got £80 from topcashback and a really low quote as a new customer.

I have never thought about using cashback sites, perhaps I should give them a go. I have always thought that they use obscure shops that I have never heard of and have no wish to use.
I have now signed up to Halifax for my insurance and I believe they use Axa...which is amazing because I think Lloyds use Axa too.

Just as a point regarding earlier post - have had grovelling apology and credit rating re-instated.
You will be signing up with them again next year then
