I bought a Senior Railcard on line a year ago which is now due for renewal. I intend to renew it for 3 years this time. I could do almost all of this with the Tesco Clubcard vouchers I have saved. I don't want to "cash them in" until I am certain that I can use them to renew an existing Railcard.

Has anyone done this?

Jo

PS I usually save them towards a Eurotunnel crossing, but we are not certain we will be able to go abroad next year and the amount I have saved won't make an appreciable difference anyway.

Not sure what the question is.

If the offer to use points for a railcard is on the Tesco clubcard site it can be done.

Its also not a renewal.

The old 12 month card will simply expire, you will be applying for a new one for a three year period. We did the same last time we wanted a Family and Friends card and bought a 3 year card.

We used Tesco points to get a '2 together' rail card and then applied on line for the rail card - no problems.

Our previous card had expired by a couple of weeks

Did you do this through your existing account?

On the whole it looks as if I won't lose the value of the vouchers I already have, which is what I was worried about.

The email I have received definitely has a "renew now" button. I guess that the best thing is to ignore that and start again using the vouchers from what you are saying?

Check on Tesco clubcard site that they still offer the 3 year seniors railcard. They no longer offer the 3 year disabled railcard, just a 1 year one.

Assuming the railcard you want is offered, you need to order a voucher via the Tesco clubcard site. When you get the voucher (via email) you input that code into the railcard renew section as payment.

Same with the Senior Railcard, although I thought when I checked it the other day that they also had the 3 year one. There was also a note to say that they hope to be able to offer 3 x face value of the vouchers after the end of November (currently it is 2 x for these cards). Since I need to renew now and I wanted the 3 years, I have paid up front and will save my Tesco vouchers for another day.

Thanks to all who helped.

If you Google for vouchers, you could have got 10% off the one year railcard by tapping in a code number. I've just renewed mine for £27 not £30. These (non Tesco) vouchers are regularly available.
The Tesco vouchers are better saved for other things where you get more bang for your bucks - we get our English Heritage membership using them, which gives £80-ish membership for £20-ish vouchers.
