When I upgraded to Windows 10 ... and I've been through most of the previous Windows stages ... I didn't find any files from previously saved work on any of the previous versions incapable of being accessed. I do keep everything, that is not currently being worked on, on independent hard drives ... even old Lotus stuff can still be opened on my W10 ... I do use it on a desktop iMac (partitioned for Windows and OS), so I get the best of both worlds.
And ... yes, once I got used to it, I found W10 superior to previous versions ...
But, rather like preferences for tents, folding campers, trailer tents, caravans or motorhomes ... it's each to his/her own ...

Yes, that is absolutely right Kelper, it is all just a matter of personal preference.
One of the many reasons I won't "upgrade" to Win 10 is because my computers are old and I have had problems before with running new operating systems on old computers. In my experience new O.S. need a computer upgrade, as they take up more space, need more memory, and a faster processor, or they go very slow. I don't have the money to buy new computers, and the ones I have work just fine anyway, so I'll leave things as they are or switch to Linux, as I'm certain there's a version that will run just fine on them. Another reason is that I am not a great lover of Microsoft and I don't want them having any more control over my computers than I can help. I don't like their prices either!
I still have a Toshiba Satellite 300CDT (circa 1995) running Win 98 which cannot run anything later. However, ONE program that does EXACTLY what I want will not run on anything later - updates/upgrades of that program are available, but not one will do what I want/need. So, every now and then, old faithful gets "taken for a walk" to do what I need - perfectly safe because it has not connected to the net for about 15 years - it doesn't need to!
I have 2 Dell D820s (circa 2006) - "Designed for Windows XP, Windows Vista Capable" - when bought, running Win 7, now running (perfectly) Win 10 latest build - although I still sometimes swap in a Win 7 hard drive for one reason or another...
One desktop on Win 10, another on Win 7, but that is likely to be updated...

Well! I have just noticed that all web sites I am permanently signed into (including this one) do not recognize me until I sign in again. All this since last Windows 7 update about 7 days ago! System restore will not work with any date! Cynical or what? Really do not want Window10 as I use it at work...hate it with a passion!

Open windows explorer and in the search box, look for "Old Windows".
I thought I'd seen it somewhere and I had. I'd moved it to another hard disk.

After having problems with windows updates a while back, I turned them off. More trouble than they are worth?
