Very distinctive silver hobby 7m campervan REGISTRATION P55JCH STOLEN early hours of this morning (16/12/19) from North Duffield, Selby. Police have been informed, my parents are absolutely devastated. Please share, let’s try get this van back to its rightful owners!!!
And scum they are! We bought our 2017 LMC VIP 695 in July 2019 after we buried our little ones mum through cancer.
We planned some lovely memories in it but alas, it was stolen on Friday 20th Dec.
The campsite owner of Gateway resort and the staff have been amazing, notified me and the police before 9am the same day it went. Their security is second to none, locked steel gates, cctv etc. The determined thieves got through everything including a wheel lock, hitchlock and 4 x Key locked corner steadies, also the towbar was parked under a hedge.
When I say determined thieves, they will not be stopped until they are made to take responsibility for hurting the rest of us. It is a change in law we should be looking for-they are merciless, our caravan was full of a young child�s things.
Caravan club refused to insure it but We were insured elsewhere for the van.
Sadly though not for the DVDs etc the little ones mummy bought before she passed, we cannot insure against the pain in a child�s heart.
My advice to anyone leaving a camper or motorhome in storage would be to remove something vital so that it cannot be started. Anti-theft devices and alarms will only deter the casual thief, not the determined one, but removing something vital which would have to be replaced in order to start it might. Anything attached to the vehicle, such as a wheelclamp can be removed relatively easily by a professional thief, but if the thief has to replace something removed by the owner, they may go elsewhere.
Probably not so easy with modern vehicles, but I can remember years ago when I went away without my car I used to remove the distributor cap and HT leads, and hide them in the house somewhere.
Its worth considering that if you don't have insurance and the caravan catches fire (etc) you would be expected to pay for all surrounding caravans that were effected, and any losses incurred, including loss of life, which would be quite expensive.
The above makes you realise that having an uninsured caravan nicked is going to be much easier on the pocket.
Unless theres an accident where the owner (not the thief) is going to be liable

They would have to prove negligence for a claim to be successful.
