We have been using Simple liquid soap and still getting chapped hands but probably not the fault of the soap. Since it is difficult to obtain hand soap now we have bought 3 large bottles of Infacare baby bath which I have been using as a shampoo for a couple of years now anyway. We are topping up the empty Simple pump bottles with it.
Slather it on at night & wear a pair of light cotton gloves. The Norwegian stuff is good, Nivea seems to work nicely (runny cream doesn’t really soothe much). I find the most effective ones have Shea Butter in them. If there are bleeding areas, try Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream (it has salicylic acid which is in aspirin); or straightforward Vaseline (cottage gloves essential!)
My wife has decided to buy some of Asda's Aqueous Cream which can be used as a soap as well as a cream...at least, it is on the list for our next delivery. Whether we get it or not remains to be seen.
Just a thought, a lot of people who suffer from Diabetes can find that their skin gets sore when blood sugar levels are raised either due to changes in diet, stress, previous antibiotic treatment, or a general progress of the illness itself.
It can also make any yeast infections worse, resulting in Redness itching and soreness. If hands are being washed and not properly dried afterwards, or fungal nail infections are present, this in turn can lead to a problem until treated with Antifungal creme, and either use of paper towels or hot wash handtowels frequently to prevent further contamilation until antifungal treatment is complete.
