i have a very odd side affect and was wondering if anyone else has it too.
since registering all my details with the covid app ect i`ve been inundated with spam telling me my mcaffee subscription is running out.
then today the automated car crash phone calls started.
the only time i`ve used that email lately was for all the covid stuff.
quite strange

Whenever sites ask for an email/phone in exchange for info/access to something - i had one at the weekend, i always flip a digit somewhere. That helps to cut down on the spam.

Absolutely. I always used to give the phone number of a local phone box but that went years ago. Now I just make one up with a string of random numbers. I have one email address that I just use for that purpose, and I just go to it and delete everything every now and then.

the email i used is not my main one, or the one i use for any monetary transactions. So it was just a mild annoyance.
i had to use my phone number on the other hand as the covid app is registered to my number, and i have to supply work with the texts from the nhs to get paid...
was just an observation as you would expect both the government and Nhs sites to be secure..

I have recently been inundated by those McAfee emails as well but I don’t think it is the covid App to blame as I used a different email address for the covid App than the one the McAfee emails are coming to. The strange thing it, the McAfee emails are coming to an email address I no longer actively use, it is still active but I have been slowly phasing it out over the last couple of years and definitely haven’t given that email address to anyone in at least 2 years. All I can assume is that email address was taken in one of those large scale hacks of various companies that seemed to have happened over the last few years and has now been sold to scammers.

I've had a couple over the last few days too. I have never used McAfee so I just delete them.
Can't be anything to do with any Covid apps because I don't have any. My ancient mobile phone doesn't do apps.

Ive been to a big expo centre today where showing your covid pass on entry was mandatory. Except, thats all i did - show it. It wasnt scanned or anything. And to be honest, the attention given to it was so brief that i could have been flashing my lotto numbers. Its all ok these places reckoning to be 'careful', and claiming 'safety is a priority', but in reality they are just paying lip service to the notion.

I went to a concert in October where I had initially felt quite comfortable booking a ticket as the website for the concert venue set out some very detailed Covid rules including showing a vaccination pass. However, when we got there, like you, hardly a glance was given to the pass and anyone could easily have mocked something up on their phone to look similar and no one paid enough attention to notice.
I was quite nervous for a few days afterwards and definitely won’t be going there again until things with covid have settled down a lot more (if they ever do!).
