Are annoying me! we are going to Newbold on Stour on Sunday (south of Stratford on the A3400). I know the way we want to go, M1, M45,AA45,A46, A429, A3400, but all the routeplanners want us to use the A5, then past Buckingham with all the roundabouts, over to Banbury and A422, all unsuitable). Which one would you recommend?
If you have a preferred route then use it. I always do, sometimes contrary to what route planners say. We all have our own preferences depending on our own likes and dislikes.
My favourite route planner is TomTom Mydrive. I can set the vehicle type, my max speed, any number of via points (for forcing my preferred route), travel date/time etc. etc. ... and then download it to my TomTom sat nav (via my account).
It picks your chosen route as it's first choice, with alternatives:
Found it to be about the best of the bunch, although not perfect (where I know the area and routes I know are better for towing!), some route planners are a nightmare, they get you there OK, but punt you down some truly hard work routes! Where many fail is picking shortest route over easiest route to drive/tow that is often only slightly longer!
I use my pro drive sat nav from EBay, it cost me £84.99 2 years ago. It has only taken me wrong once and that was my fault by putting it the wrong destination.
Before I had that I put my route into via Michelin which gave me a good route which was safe for caravans.
