Hi, we’ve decided to stay home this week after a couple of lovely short camping breaks recently, it just seems too hot to be putting up the FC. Anyone camping this weekend, how are you getting on?

Sadly we go home today so cannot enjoy the joys of the air con in our caravan as we don't have air con at home.

The last few days have been hot but bearable. We are heading home today after 4 weeks away and I usually feel quite down in the dumps that the main holiday is over, but this year I am feeling a little relieved that we won’t be away in the high temperatures forecast for Monday and Tuesday.

I keep cheering myself up with the thought that we’ll be away again for a week in the lakes in a few weeks. Hopefully there will be some nice weather again as it usually pours down whenever we go to the lakes.

Next trip not planned until August at an adult-only site that is next door to a pub with lots of ciders, can't wait!

The next few days, I shall stay at home with the curtains drawn and blinds down, and work from home with the air con on!

I had air con installed in my house when I relocated to Wiltshire back in the mid 00's and everyone I knew said it was OTT to have air con in this country.

I originated from Hong Kong where everywhere had air con, and my dad would turn the ones in our family home on when the temperatures hit mid teens.

I can't stand the heat, never have, and over 20s is too hot for me.

Just got home, temperature was 28 a few minutes ago in the car. The Aircon has packed up and the garage can't seem to fix it. Luckily we have Aircon in the caravan.

It rained heavily last night and this morning, so that will save me watering the garden - just the polytunnel to do. It's dry now and pleasantly warm - maybe 20 C. Forecast for the next two days is nothing too out of the ordinary - maybe 24-25 C, but cooler along the coast. Dropping to 16-17 C on Wed.

Similar to Capt L here in Ayrshire. Dry but overcast, a pleasant 24 deg. Raining & about 10 deg cooler in Skye, according to the radio.
I find this flurry about the heat a bit of a puzzle, given how many folks choose to holiday in the Med to bake in these very temperatures (including me). But I hope vulnerable people & animals stay safe at home in UK.

Listening to the news today, the 40deg heat warnings relate to damage to infrastructure - rails buckling & the like. Even mention of over inflated tyres bursting. And the Abroad forum has news of wild fires affecting forum members camping in Europe.
Stay safe, everyone.

I couldn't imagine camping in this - I'd expire. My favourite shady seating spot in the garden is at 31C currently,, so that's no use to me - no idea what the temperature in full sun would be! I'm managing to keep inside at around 23C by keeping sunny-side curtains closed, having a through draught etc. No fans or aircon here, but the way things are going, more people will be investing in it, I reckon. It's going to be a sticky night here... best of British luck to people living or staying in the red zone!

I’m wishing I was at the site I was at this time last week: coastal cliff top, so a cool breeze even in full sun, and a lovely sea to swim in a 5 min stroll down the road.

Well I'm in the Red Zone, in the burbs of London, and it's TOASTY! Currently (5.15pm) 37C outside in the shade, upstairs in the house is 34C in every room even though curtains drawn, coolest room of the house is downstairs living room that gets no sun whatsoever and that was 26C and rising before I put the a/c unit on about half hour ago, now a far more comfortable 23C and a lovely chill draft from a/c! The outside sensor for my indoor/outdoor thermometer catches the sun until about 10am and that read 68C just before the sun left it, a rather meaningless reading, but indicative of how strong the sun is! Also measured surface temps with a infra-red temp gun, INSIDE of my 2 external house walls that catch the sun from sunrise to sunset are 34C and just positively radiate heat at you like standing in front of a fire! My concrete patio is 53C! - can't even let the dog walk across it to the lawn!

Kind of wish I was camping somewhere much cooler, but equally horrified at thought of packing and hitching up caravan, then pitching the caravan in anything like these temps.

We collected our new car today from Arnold Clark in Elgin. First thing we did was figure out how to use the air conditioning!

It's not too bad here - 25C at 16:00, but there's a nice breeze to go with it. Mrs. L and I recalled that 20 years ago when I was working in Finland, we travelled to Santa Claus village on the Arctic circle. It was over 30C at the circle. Mrs L and I were in T shirt & shorts, while Santa was in his robes - in his air conditioned office. And I've got the photo to prove it.

30+ at the Arctic circle - I don't recall anyone commenting on that.

How many other factors - separate from actual temperature - are involved?
Humidity, for one, is an imnportant factor - I've been in Cyprus with temperatures of 40c, and while "quite warm", nowhere near as stifling and sweating/lethargy-producing effects as today's 31c in my area (Gtr Manchester)....

Any breeze, I guess. Known in winter as the ‘wind chill factor’ bringing down the feel of the temperature.
