I have not used eBay to sell anything for a few year, but recently advertised 2 x tyres. A buyer and myself agreed on a price and it was cash on collection after the buyer had inspected the tyres and they would collect today. Although I have a Paypal account I do not have a bank account linked to eBay itself.
The buyer then apparently made a payment to eBay and eBay have advised that they will hold the funds until 14 Oct. I don't want to released the tyres until I have cash in hand or in my bank.
Can anyone advise if a buyer can pay eBay directly and not use Paypal and also waiting 14 days for payment to be sent to a bank account? Seems very strange to me.

I cancelled a sale for this very reason. Ebay holds onto millions of pounds of customers money this way. Someone paid me £50 for something, and once i learnt there was a fortnights delay in seeingmy money, i cancelled the transaction. Ebay wasnt happy, but i gave it to them straight.
The buyer - if they are happy, can just go direct to your paypal account, and pay the funds in. They dont even need a paypal account themselves. Or, they could just bring pound notes on the day.
its perfectly normal, paying via ebay (paypal) will give you both more protection, however if you stated cash on collection on the advert then you are within your rights to tell the buyer this and return their money and they will then have to pay at the time of collection, this then removes the buyer protection as ebay assume that the buyer has checked the item over before paying.
holding on to your money til 14th oct is purely because you either havent sold on ebay or they are treating you as a new seller
I know a guy that sold a iphone on ebay and was paid via paypal, because the guy was local he arranged to collect the phone in person even though he'd paid for post.
Days later he had a paypal dispute the buyer said they had not recieved the phone yet and he wanted a refund, paypal gave it to him.
I've since heard this from someone else, its easier to sell on market place these days and its free
I have typed out an invoice for the buyer stating that the buyer having inspected the goods in person is happy to proceed with the transaction so they cannot argue at a later stage.
The system changed fairly recently.
The person pays ebay and within 24hrs they will tell you they are sending you a payment(less fees)to your bank and it is good for you to post the item. The fact that they now take the fees means there is no monthly invoice from them for you to pay.
Whilst I realise your listing is different, I thought I would tell you of the new process.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
That’s why I’ve stopped using eBay. Heard so many stories where people have sent something after being paid by PayPal and then the buyer says there is something wrong with it and they get a refund.
Marketplace on Facebook is where I now sell my things and collection only, cash payment.

Your problem is no linked bank account to ebay.

Same here. I've offloaded tons of stuff over the past few years. FB has the advantage of being local, so far more chance of someone being interested, and buying. And, theres no fees to pay. I've even got rid of stuff for free to save me going to the tip. One mans rubbish etc etc.
I can see the money, but I cannot access it. I have to either log into my bank account through eBay to verify the account or do a micro deposit thing. No way am I going to compromise my bank security by logging into my bank account through an eBay page.
The micro deposit thing advises me that I need to give eBay another bank account as the current one is incorrect although it is perfectly correct.
Will never use eBay again for selling if I have to go through all this hassle just to get money which is less than £200 that is rightfully mine now that the buyer has collected the goods!
