We are getting rid of our tow car as we have bought a motorhome. Now looking for a small, economical car with a high driving position. It must be good on fuel. Please can anyone advise.
We can’t afford new but anything between 2014 and 2020 can be considered.Thank you.
I have a Renault Captur, I test drove both this car and a Vauxhall Mokka, the Captur won.
There is a trend in small SUVs to put a wide central console between narrow front seats in imitation of the Hummer but the Captur has full width front seats so you will feel more comfortable and intimate with your front seat passenger.
The 1.2L petrol engine is the same one used in the larger Renault Kadjar and equivalent to engines in the Peugeot 2008 and 3008.
The Renault Captur is based upon the Renault Cleo chassis, Renault own Nissan and Dacia, the Nissan Juke is very similar to the Captur while the Kadjar is based upon the Nissan Quashai chasis.
The Dacia Duster is an economy version of the Renault Kadjar, I had a go in a Dacia Duster and although there is nothing "wrong" with it there is nothing I actually liked about it.
Peugeot now own both Citroen and Vauxhall.
The Ford Fiesta is about to be discontinued although the Ford Fiesta Active is an SUV I'd never heard of it until now and have never seen one, expect Ford to come out with a purpose built small SUV, the Kuga is somewhat bigger.
I hope this helps.
Although they are no longer made the Kia Venga might suit your needs, you would probably find secondhand ones available up to the years 2000. I am on my second one now, both automatics. My latest one is now just over six years old and I am having trouble finding a suitable replacement. I have knee and hip problems so a higher seating position is much more comfortable for me. I am currently thinking about a new Niro but even that is not as good as the Venga seat wish. One of my sons has a Mokka and whilst in most respects it would be ideal it does have rather high sills which means lifting legs up higher. No use to you but I love the high driving position of my motorhome!
Thank you for your suggestions. We already have a Mokka but wanted something smaller for me.My OH says we can manage with one car but I say no. I don’t want to lose my independence.😊
Mrs. L has just bought a new Dacia Stepway. This shares engine and mechanics with the Renault Clio. It may lack the finesse of other cars, but it is very well equipped, comfortable and economical. Most of all, it is cheap and the Stepway sits higher than the Sandero so is easier to get in and out of.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
Thank you all for your suggestions. We have looked around and eventually decided on a Suzuki Ignis.
It is a hybrid and got the Adventure pack. It is supposed to manage at least 50mpg, fingers crossed.
Thank you once again.
