It would seem it's not gone anywhere. I went out last weekend, first time in a long time and 4 days later tested positive for covid. Since then I've heard of 3 friends with it - neither of us been anywhere near the others or near any mutual contacts. It wouldn't stop me going back out socially (perhaps my immunity is low because I'm not out much) but it made me think - never as much as heard the word covid in months!
I think its just a handle for bad cold nowadays. Downgraded and then some. Yes, folk may still die with it, but they die with the flu as well. The mrs hasnt been good since she stepped off a plane 10 days ago. She hasnt got covid, but with the coughing, sneezing and spluttering, she may as well have had it. Shes definitely been worse than folk we know who have had covid.
Brother and sister in law both had it, they thought it was a bad cold but tested positive. Both recovered quite quickly.
China is keeping very quiet about it since they stopped the zero covid policy.

It’s endemic, like flu. It’ll come & go the same way that flu does, it will evolve new strains like flu does. Some people will keep their boosters up, some won’t. As we don’t register our Covid results any more, I’ve no idea how the powers that be actually count how many of us have it.
Still very much at large and I know of a number people going down with it even though they are up to date with their vaccinations.

It certainly hasn't gone away - I had a dose of it over Xmas! Had all my Vacs and Boosters from the very start and on time, and this was my first dose of Covid (that I'm aware of, may have been asymptomatic before), which is pretty good going considering I live in a VERY high risk area, but it got me eventually!
Unpleasant as Covid was for the week or so I suffered with it (I did feel pretty rough), the many weeks after where I apparently had a touch of 'Long Covid', suffering permanent tiredness and Brain Fog was just as bad in it's own way, very difficult to do even the simplest of things as brain just wouldn't function properly. Finally shook it off, and very grateful to have done so!
I know of quite a few people who have caught it over past few months, so it definitely has NOT gone away! Thankfully the Vacs and Boosters seem to be doing there thing still, so whilst people feel ill, they are not made seriously ill or killed by it.
Its making a comeback here too, I've heard of 3 people in the last week who have it, 2 degrees of separation from us. I have no desire to have it again either, new strains or not.
The monthly testing of selected households by the Office for National Statistics is still continuing, so I expect they're getting the figures from that.
Had it in the begining, knocked me off my feet I was really bad. Had it since, new varient is just like a cold. I don't bother with the vaccine anymore

My friends reckon I should be certified anyway. And they should know!!
Hubby tested positive today. He only knows he has it because he took a test because I have it. Mr Teflon we call him. Neither up nor down same as the last time he had covid. I was heavy cold sick for 2 days and now feeling much better. Daughter who is currently staying with us whilst work is getting done in her house has all the symptoms (worse than mine) but still negative after 4 tests. No rhyme nor reason.
We had to postpone our Christmas because my wife tested positive just before it. We always have a big family get-together but we spent it on our own again. We made up for it though on 14th January. My wife wasn't really that ill, but she had a very positive test. No, Covid hasn't gone away.
I'd had what I thought was just a cold the week before my wife tested positive. Did I have it? I thought it was just a cold so didn't bother testing, my wife only tested because she lost her sense of taste which I hadn't.
It's certainly still out there, but now the most vulnerable (and a lot of others) have been vaccinated, which helps to lessen the severity, the publicity's died down - probably on the grounds that if we haven't got the message about safe behaviour by now, we're not going to. Attention is more focused on flu. Goodness knows how things will go if avian flu gets more frisky between species! Argh...

I work in a university and there are many many staff and students with covid at the minute. It is not talked about in the media anymore but it is still very much around.
