For the first time in many years I used eBay last week to purchase two items from two different suppliers. Both had very positive feedback.
One package was supposed to arrive last Friday, but that never happened. On checking tracking, it appears that the parcel (toothpaste) was rejected by Royal Mail and has been sitting in some depot ever since.
The other order was for a Flymo trimmer and was supposed to arrive on Saturday 27th, but all we got was an email from DPD stating sorry we missed you although we were in all day. Stated it would be delivered on the Sunday, but again nothing. On checking status of tracking parcel went from supplier to Birmingham depot which is about 25 miles from our location.
However because it was not delivered, it went to Southall depot in London where it sat until today!!! Today tracking shows that the package is being returned to the supplier?? On sending a message to the seller I got a reply "supplier X is out of the office until 23/04/2024 and may not be able to respond to your message." That is nearly a year!
Both items were paid for by Paypal. We now want to cancel both orders and get a refund, but as I am not familiar with eBay can anyone advise what i need to do?
Apologies if this post should not be on this forum, but unsure what to do.
ok open an item not arrived case with ebay for them both. that will give them approx 5 days to respond, if they dont do that then ebay will automatically refund you
I dont use ebay that much nowadays. But when i do, im usually lucky with my purchases. But toothpaste - from ebay?? Royal Mail are picky with what they will carry. And absolutely useless for anything international. We've had a document in the ether somewhere with them for the past fortnight, and its only going to Germany. On realising we've made this same stupid mistake a few years ago, i sent a replacement with UPS. It was there in 2 days. For not much more than RM.
Firstly, you did the right thing by paying by Paypal because there are terms and conditions applied for both sellers and buyers which gives you more protection as a buyer. In this circumstance the purchase is out of your control so it gives you sufficient grounds to open a case with Ebay and explain what problems your are encountering. They will then contact the seller and if the dispute cannot be resolved in a few days you will get a full refund. I've purchased loads of stuff off Ebay over the past years and rarely have a problem apart from about 4 I can think of but Ebay were very supportive each and every time whereby the case was resolved in my favour with the seller finally sending a refund and case closed.
Since the lockdown, I have been making purchases from ebay. In fact I have been quite impressed by the way they deal with various problems.
As already stated, go to "myebay" and select the product concerned and raise the issue as item not delivered. Once you have done this you should find you get a response from ebay. If the supplier does not respond, then ebay will offer you a refund.
But there is a time limit for you to take action, so do not delay.
Thanks all. As it turned out neither the seller or myself were at fault and both have agreed a refund. I don't have an eBay account so when you purchase something, you need to put in your address.
I inputted the post code and a drop down list appeared and I selected our home address. The "correct" address was then inputted for delivery. What I did not notice was that the second letter of the first part of the post code was missing and that the post code was grouped together.
Because of the missing second letter instead of the post code being for Worcestershire it became a post code for London.
I can perhaps understand making a mistake once, but not the same mistake on two different days to two different suppliers. Paypal had the correct address, but it was eBay that dropped the second letter of the post code although it got the rest of the address correct.
Although I have now modified the address on eBay, I guess we will not be using eBay again for any purchase after this palaver.
PS. The toothpaste was 12 x 100ml tubes for £14 so a lot cheaper than any supermarket and most supermarkets don't seem to have stock of the Triple action and want £2.50 for a 100ml tube.
Hope you manage to get through your toothpaste before the 'Best Before' date.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
The seller for the toothpaste is refusing to refund until the goods are returned to them which I supposed is understandable, but what if the goods are not returned as at the moment the parcel as it seems to be stagnating at a Royal Mail depot.
As it was sent to the wrong post code through no fault of mine or the seller, I am unsure if there is anything I can do at this point. It is supposed to have been delivered by the Royal Mail.
Parcel collected by 24th May scanned numerous times and rejected twice. Once on 28th and again on 31st May. Although post code is incorrect, the rest of the address is correct.
dont worry about the toothpaste seller refusing to pay you back, paypal/ebay will just go ahead and refund you regardless of what the seller seems to think.
Just open 'item not received' cases for both items. Tracking shows they have not been delivered. PayPal (or eBay) will refund you and the seller will have the goods returned by his courier. But, don't delay in opening the 2 cases.
