my sat nav on my hyundai santa fee 2.2 2015 does not appear to have updates. is their a solution to this tather than going to the main dealer or hyundai.
Local dealer offered me an update on a USB stick for my i40. I would provide the stick.
However...
He told me they don't like doing the update as the sat nav has to be on for the whole time and it can take hours. He said I should do it when taking a long 3 hour drive. I didn't bother.
If you do want to do it yourself, you can download the software free online but I don't know if these are legit as I believe Hyundai only offered free upgrades for 3 years
Was going to cost £hundreds for an update for our Škoda. OH bought a CD online & ran it outside the house with the ignition on, doors locked. Worked fine. But the car’s satellite connection failed later (so we were driving in the sea…)
We just use Google maps on the iPhone now, but that might not be an option abroad with data use. And the MH doesn’t have satnav anyway.
They do our Santa Fe when it has its service and mot. Last time they asked us to get a bigger capacity sd card as there was insufficient space. Luckily there is a big Tesco,a few minutes away so my wife went and bought one.
We have a Garmin satnav which we use in our Mini, it has free updates as long as you own it! A satnav and better media was a pretty expensive option on the Mini so we didn't bother had automatic transmission and quick clear screen instead.
Our previous Kia Sorento didn't have satnav either.
The Garmin is very good you can search for accommodation near where you are which includes campsites.

Well, our sat nav had a field day yesterday. Travelling from Luton to Sittingbourne. First she wanted to take us the long way around the M25, then was intent on trying to take us off at nearly every junction, including the A13 just before the Dartford Bridge!

I have a fully updated Garmin on the motorbike. If I put it to avoid motorways, it takes me down single track roads with grass up the middle. No A roads, these couldn't even be classed as B.

Think it's the classic case of 'engage brain, disengage sat nav' and don't drive into the duck pond or off the cliff just because the sat nav says so!
My inbuilt TomTom system in the car frequently does 'odd things' that differ from the stand alone TomTom unit I have (which is pretty good apart from odd times voice guidance says turn one way and map says turn the exact opposite way!!!! - map is correct!), it has a near obsession with taking me off motorways, around the junction roundabout, and then back on the motorway! WTF is that about! I of course ignore it and just continue on the main carriageway, and not once have I encountered any legitimate reason why I should have deviated around the slip road/roundabout!
Been trialling (before trusting implicitly!) a new sat nav app (Magic Earth) on my phone that allows me to set vehicle to car plus caravan (inbuilt car system and standalone TomTom are not capable of that) and using caravan friendly routes, seems quite impressive in many ways, BUT is has thrown a wobbler or two when planning journeys. Example, looking to do Welwyn Garden City, Herts, to Rye, East Sussex, initially gave 3 route options which were all viable possibilities, even had roadworks and traffic info/delays, then it went haywire! Wanted to send me partially (no actual roads!) cross country as the crow flies to southern Ireland, then more or less coast hugging but again 'as the crow flies' back to Rye BUT with no ferry services operating that route! So I'd have to be part car-caravan, part bird, part boat to follow that weird route! Needless to say my trust in it is not that high at the moment, think it needs a few updates to sort glitches!
No two ways about it, you really can't put 100% faith in any sat nav, you do need to think about your journey and have a mental back up plan for when the gizmo goes crazy!
