Following Russia's Lunar-25 failed mission, I'm loving their new National Anthem...
♫We put the hole in the moon♫

We laugh put the possibility of us blowing our moon up or out of orbit, leading to the decimation of the human race is a very real possibility.

I agree that would probably mean the end of the human race, but I think it would take an awful lot more than the crashing of one lunar lander to do it. I'm no expert in these things, far from it, but I think what happened on the moon recently was the equivalent of our running over a matchbox in our cars. Hardly likely to flip it over. (At least I certainly hope so! )

Agreed, thankfully its unlikely we would ever be able to effectively mine the thing, but our treatment of it like its our plaything to toy around with I find concerning - as we do with our skies.

Well we do that with everything when you think about it, not just the skies. Where does all the raw material come from that we make things out of? We exploit the Earth itself in order to create things, so I don't really think it's much different mining the moon as I'm sure one day we will. After watching the moon landing many years ago I was convinced that by now people would be living up there, and I'm somewhat surprised they are not. Now that there is renewed interest I think that day may come soon.

I see India has sent a rocket to land on the dark side of the moon. Poor show really, if we gave them even more foreign aid they might have been able to send one to the bright side.

It'll just be tourists and Irish theme pubs. You ever been to Lanzarote? Itll be basically the same with domes over the top.

Any talk about the prospect of future moon landings seems to have been put on the back burner for many years now and was hardly talked about with little interest as space exploration has now drawn their attention to the planet Mars. I cannot see any logical reason as to why any country would want to invest huge sums of money trying to land on the surface of the moon again.

I'd be more inclined to praise India's moon landing achievement if they could look after their own people better. After this, you'd think organising clean drinking water and sanitation for all and improving respect for women would be a doddle - wouldn't it?

It's amazing how the likes of India can get on the band wagon sending rockets to the moon as the government there haven't exactly got a good health and safety record in general regarding the safety of the general public. They have their priorities wrong and like one of the the posts above has said, it's all about ego but the UK seriously needs an updated review in respect of sending foreign aid to the poor people of India as the funds sent are not being injected to the true meaning of the charity.

In my view we dont send foreign aid to help anyone - the uk doesnt care THAT much how its spent - if we did we'd be sending it to more needy economies.   To me, its just a way of sweetening trade partners and justifying the UKs "deals" with such economies by saying we're committed to helping them sort out poverty and human rights. The amount we give in "aid" is merely a grain of sand compared with the amount we make from selling arms to India so they can shoot their own people if they need to.

India's not our biggest arms buyer though - quote "2021 analysis by the CAAT revealed that the British government financed more than £17 billion worth of weapons to nearly 70% of the world's worst human rights abusers, such as Egypt, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Turkey"

Its not a political statement - facts arent political statements:-)

I think you have hit the nail on the head there, Britain is not that much better than the worst of the world's countries. We are just better at keeping it under wraps.
