Bought a box, put in caravan fridge. Looking forward to a glass, it wasn't Pinot. It was sweet like Zinfandel. Sent a message to their head office in case it's a general problem.

I'd be well annoyed. I don't like sweet wines and Pinot should definitely be dry.

Just taken it back. They tried to fob me off "it's just the taste" I do know the difference, I've drunk enough of it. Got a different one, only 50p more.

I find it amazing that they were so blase in the store. It could have been a serious issue. Taste is one of our defences against tainted products.

Pinot Noir? Or Pinot Grigio? Or Pinot Gris? Assume a Pinot Noir as you’ve compared it to Zinfandel / Primitivo. Although there’s huge variation between countries (I love a NZ Sauv Blanc, I find French ones insipid but that’s just my preference), that could account for the difference in flavour if you usually enjoy a particular Pinot Noir & bought a different one.
However, I agree that they should have replaced it without quibbling if you rejected it. My local independent wine merchant told me to bring back anything I didn’t like & they’d replace it.
I like Sainsbury’s - we usually buy their “taste the difference” range as it’s very reliable.

Pinot Grigio rose Fiona. Don't like red wine, find it too spicy. Their usual own variety and I certainly know how it should taste. This one was sickly sweet.

Ah, can’t help there. Not a Pinot Grigio fan (it’s too floral for me) & find most rosé wines too sweet. Was it a producer / label you’d had before? Hopefully you enjoyed the replacement!

Sainsbury's own. Replacement called Mondello I think, also rose Pinot. definitely not sweet, can't abide sweet wine.

I was brought up in an area widely known for its wine production and hardly ever drank wine as regarded it as sugared vinegar.   Give me a decent beer any day.

What kind of wine was that? I have never tasted any like sugared vinegar. Only dessert or fortified wines are sweet. (apart from zinfandel).
