Saga was actually cheaper for us than others I could find for the last 2 years, until this year. Just goes to show insurance varies so much from person to person, also depends on the postcode where you live, so many variables.
Yes, I think I've read that somewhere too, I'm using my tablet.

Used to be with LV untill we had a claim and they were as helpful as a chocolate fire guard.
Leak in the roof. Guy they sent stood at the end of the garden looking up at the roof and proclaimed it was the fault of an accumulation of moss and not covered. He then got back in his van and left!
Saw a local roofer repairing a neighbour's roof and got him to take a look. Huge 6" split in a section of lead flashing.
LV didn't want to know!
House insurance doesn't normally cover leaks in a roof unless they are caused by a weather event or accidental damage.

They do when it's attached to a Home Emergency policy and specified.
The annoying thing used to be that we were flooded from the river in 1994. Insurance paid up and we (6 houses) eventually managed to persuade the council to build a flood bank, so it won't happen again, but had problems at renewal for ages. Now I see that there is a 10 year limit.

We are with the NFU and when our home was flooded in 2012, we had no issue with a claim. It was a burst pipe due to a faulty installation by the installers for the heat pump.
When my house insurance went up this year, I looked around for what I thought was a reasonable quote. Having found one I applied, but this was rejected because of what I consider to be misleading wording.
Part of my house dates back almost 200 years. It has solid stone walls and not surprisingly there are some minor, historic cracks which are not considered to be a problem.
My current insurer asks, have there been any cracks? Yes. Have these spread or got worse? No. That's fine.
New proposed insurer asks, have there been any cracks in the past 10 years? I assume this means have there been any cracks originating within the past 10 years. NO, this means that if there have EVER been any cracks outside or inside since the house was built in the 1800's.
The house has stood this long, I don't think it's going to fall down now - unlike some of the modern 'Jerry built' houses that are spring up here.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
I am convinced that insurers just pluck a figure out of thin air when sending out renewal quotes, just to see what they can get away with. Why else is it that one insurer is the cheapest one year yet expensive another year? Then another year an insurer that was far too expensive last year suddenly comes up with a reasonable quote this year. Look at comparison sites. The ones that were cheapest last year almost certainly won't be the same ones who are cheapest this year.
So Glad i came across this as i forgot my home insurance and decided to check out money saving expert site for extra advice as i usually just hit compare the market.
This time though MSH have a new Home Insurance Compare+ tool and it is ace.
I used the new MSE Home Insurance Compare+ tool and it quoted Hasting Direct with Business clerical cover work from home £190, Compare the market the same cover was £209 and go compare was £196.
The only issue i had was trying to find the business option box after I 1st did a quote not using the Business option to compare the different on Home Insurance Compare+ tool so i went through to Hastings and added the business cover there and the price was still £190 😊
Still might use the meerkat quote on the off chance I save the £20 in 25% off coffee’s over the year.
