That really grates on me! Further to J, my Mum was Welsh by nationality, but actually half English, from her mother. Mum made sure she never lost her Merthyr accent. My Scottish Aunt, Dad's sister, made sure that she lost her accent.
I can still hear Mum telling me "there's no shape to you".
My mum was born in England but her mum was Scottish and father Welsh. She came up to Glasgow to study nursing in the sixties where she met my dad.

Whatever happened to courtesy?
We were taught to put ourselves last when speaking, e.g. "my wife and I", but now the norm is "me and my wife"
I was taught it depended on whether you would use me or I if it was just you. For example, "I am going to" becomes "my husband and I are going to", but "he met me" becomes "he met me and my husband".
