Colin, you say you need a car with a fairly high driving position. That is one of the things we noticed when we were test driving our little i3: the height. With its battery mounted under the floor, it is a bit of a climb to get into the car, something many would not like.

Also, we never bothered with a special charging point. Local electrician installed a twin 13 amp 3 pin socket wired direct back to the meter and we charge using the “granny charger”. 5 hours of overnight charging at approx 8.5 p/kwh gives 30% charge. This is the recommended charging system by the manufacturer for battery longevity.

When it comes to driving position my 2008 X Trail is absolutely ideal, and as a tow car I couldn't really better it. My caravan is a lightweight oldie, so on the back of the X Trail it is barely noticeable, and the fuel consumption is hardly any different to the car solo.

An EV would be fine for most of my driving if not all in theory, but even if I could afford one I haven't seen one I like anywhere near as much as my X Trail. I don't like touch-screens in a car and most cars seem to have them these days. So if somebody gave me an EV (not very likely) I would probably still keep the X Trail and just use the EV for local journeys. I like the X Trail too much.

-------------
Best Regards,
Colin
