Whilst I am not generally a big sports viewer, I do enjoy things like the Commonwealth Games and was just looking at the schedule for the next few weeks when I noticed that it was not being shown on the BBC but TNT had outbid them. I was then trying to work out how to watch it and ended up thoroughly confusing myself! A TNT Sports subscription appears to be around £30 per month, but some websites suggest that the coverage will also be available through HBO Max for around £4.99 on the basic with ads subscription. Does anyone understand how this works in practice? Is TNT simply the TV channel while HBO Max is the streaming platform, or are they actually offering different levels of access? Would the coverage be identical on both services, or would TNT have additional events? If anyone has already looked into this and can explain it in simple terms, I'd be very grateful. At the moment I'm struggling to understand why one option appears to cost so much more than the other, and whether there's a catch that I'm missing!

With all the recent pressures on BBC finances I think the days of then showing major sporting events are long gone tbh!

The price of TNT Sports will depend on where you get it from and who supplies your broadband. I'd be surprised if the basic HBO Max subscription will include sports channels, but there are frequently special offers so who knows!

I get TNT with my BT broadband where, I believe a basic (non HD) add on costs around £20 pm - although my package includes sky sports and hd so my price is not comparable.

Sky, Virgin, Talk Talk et al will all have their own packages probably around the £25 - £30 mark. I believe EE mobile customers have a special price available but I'm not really sure about that and again each company frequently has special offers.

Certainly, based on their coverage of cycling, football and the Olympics, I rate TNT coverage very highly - although such is very subjective of course!

I decided to take a chance and paid for the basic HBO Max subscription at £5.99 and I can confirm that all the commonwealth games is there. The info was very unclear and I wonder was that intentional, as I am guessing that many people have paid the full TNT subscription to watch it when they didn’t need to.
