We do a lot of off grid caravaning we have a Solar panel fitted so when the sun is shining no problems provided we don’t overdo the use of the battery, we don’t see or hear many generators in use so have they become very unpopular
------------- Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow
A lot of sites restrict or completely ban the use of liquid fuel powered generators as they make too much noise while in use.

Not too many formal campsites accept generators for reasons of disturbance from noise and fumes, and the additional fire risk - even a 'silent' genny is noticeable until some considerable distance away, and we've had the hot exhaust gases start grass smouldering when someone was careless setting up the genny on a fire resistant board and the exhaust wasn't well placed!
I've used them in the past on rally fields with no EHU available where many others were also using them, so the annoyance factor is just one of many so less cause for complaint. Personally, I regard them as a last resort these days compared to Solar, the need to carry/stock a significant amount of fuel, or make frequent trips to replenish stocks is a big downside, and of course fuel is expensive these days!
I think Solar and Powerstation technology and cost reduction has developed so much over past few years, that generators have been surpassed in many situations. Not entirely redundant just yet though, Solar is pretty poor out of sunny Summer months, and heavy demand is still difficult to meet without a big and expensive Solar panel/battery set up. A 2kW genny is still a dirt cheap power source compared to alternatives!
