I’m looking for a recommendation for a replacement for my 1.6 Honda CRV 4WD Which is 10 years old. I’d be happy with something a couple of years old and I wonder what folks on here would recommend.
My Caravsn MTPLM 1347
We changed my Kuga 2015 for another Kuga 2022 it was 3 years old . I have always had Ford’s due to reliability and affordable. But this year we were told it needed a big 4 years old service plus new tires so over £1000 .
Newer cars are so high tech. And sadly no cd player . A lot of gadgets that I don’t want or need.
Last week a stone hit my windscreen from a truck . So I had to pay excess. Then last week it wouldn’t start after a lot of tests and checks I had to have a new battery.
But I still recommend Ford’s and if you don’t need such a big car look at focus estate .
I can’t afford a VW or a Range Rover .
I’m sure many will be able to offer their own favourites though.
I am still happy with my car for towing

10 years isn't that old.
I have access to 2 tow cars, a 16 year old Santa Fe and a 21 year old Freelander.
Sometimes it's better the devil you know!
Indeed! I tow with an 18 year old Nissan X Trail and it's probably the best tow car I've had. I wouldn't want a more modern car, particularly one with everything on a touch-screen. I hate that, I like physical buttons and knobs as I can adjust things like air-con without having to stop or take my eyes off the road. I intend to keep my X Trail for as long as I possibly can, and if it does become unrepairable I will look for a later one of the same model. I think they made that model up to 2013. Mine's a 2008, but I have heard that the later (facelift) models had a few tweeks that made them even better.
Whenever I go to Scotland one brand I see more of than anywhere else in the UK is Subaru. A Forester will be similar size to the CRV, permanent 4wd, auto box, mild hybrid, huge towing capability,
If you have a dealer nearby pay them a call. Most are family owned and offer excellent service. If they have one with a tow bar they may even let you borrow one for an extended test drive,
Another one with a 10 year pus tow car a mk4 Mondeo estate. Spent quite bit over the last few years on repairs despite garage trying to sell me another car. Not worth it as it only does towing miles the last few years as most of our driving is now in the little ev. Mondeo still going strong and I have overcome the renowned windscreen wash problem. Guess this will suffice a few more years by which time I will probably lose license owing to age.
We have had 3 Kia Sorrentos and 2 Hyundai. Currently have a Hyundai Tucson hybrid.
Very reliable and good towcars. There are plenty of used ones about. They have a 5 year warranty. The Kia Sportage shares the same platform and have good warranty too.

If my car is fixable without breaking the bank it will be repaired.
I was looking for an alternative for my CRV if it’s not being fixed. Honda dealer say they don’t make newer Hondas capable of legally towing anything bigger than a trailer! I was shocked.
I will update soon, but thanks meantime.
If at all possible maybe you should stick with the CRV. I'm not a big fan of more modern cars. In my opinion my 18 year old X Trail is a better car than the later models and it appears to me that the same goes for Hondas.
We considered this, but as we no longer caravan, (health), we went for a
2018 Honda CRV 2 litre petrol auto awd.
Reliable, comfortable and quiet.
Low mpg, but as we do fewer than 6K miles it is acceptable.
