I am brand new to caravaning and towing. Can anyone advice me on this. Do we go for a swan neck tow bar on our Dacia duster 4wd and what number of pins would we need. We are looking at buying a 4 berth caravan - roughly 2014 onwards.

What style of towbar you get fitted is entirely up to you. Fixed, swan neck or detachable, each has their merits and their pitfalls.
For electrics I would go for a FULLY connected 13 pin system. By that I mean ensure that all pins are wired up so you can charge the leisure battery and run the fridge on 12v while towing.

2014 onwards caravan will have 13pin plug so 13pin socket required on car. Having pins 9 & 10 live is desirable to work fridge & charge caravan battery while driving but not essential. Dacia UK supply towbar & wiring loom so I would go for that fitted by your Dacia garage then you know it will all work ok. They supply a swan neck towbar which is your best bet for compatibility with the stabiliser hitch that your caravan will most likely have. Dacia supplied loom may not power 9 & 10 though so your choice but I’ve never found it essential.

If your yet to be acquired caravan has Alko ATC (anti-snake device), it will require a permanent 12v feed on Pin 9, and Pin 13 Earth connections, so yet another reason to ensure a FULLY wired 13 pin socket.

Don't assume any request to fit a 13 pin socket will get it fully wired, they often only do a minimal 'road lights' set up leaving some pins unconnected, you NEED to ask for FULLY WIRED to be assured of Fridge, Charger, ATC connections.
