Hi,

We re looking to change our Caravan and looking at a Swift Sprite Major 4 SB. So not heavy but no light either.

In terms of a suitable tow vehicle what would you all suggest, for a safe and trouble free tow.
current van is an adria at 1300 Kgs and BMWx1 2.0ltr pet, but we change car often.

Prefer a big car in an allround fashion for solo use also.

So give it your best shot i would like to see opinion well constructed and not argumentative.

You may well find that you can tow that caravan with your X1. Otherwise most medium sized SUVs (VW Tiguan, Ford Kuga, Toyota RAV4, Audi Q5 etc) or large family cars (e.g. VW Passat, Skoda Superb, BMW 3 or 5 series, Audi A4 or A6) should be well up to the job. The only thing to be cautious of is if you look at hybrids or particularly plug-in hybrids - some, but not all have very low towing capacities.

Hi, i am aware of the requirments and what can tow this vehicle, but was wondering what vehicle other people tow with, and how it tows.

Alot of cars on the market know do not have big enough engines or are heavy enough to tow a caravan of this weight, with a safety margin in van vs car weight etc ,etc.

We tow a Bailey with a similar MPLM with a Hyundai Santa Fe diesel. Absolutely no problems towing. Stable, 0lenty of power and reliable. Prior to that we had a Kia Sorento which has the same power train.

We have a Major 4SB GT with an uprated MTPLM of 1500kg. We have towed it with a SsangYong Korando 2.2 diesel and a Ford Galaxy 2.0 diesel. Both cars have towed beautifully without any problems however the Korando was approx 175bhp against the Galaxy's 150 bhp and towed more easily on steep hills when loaded to the max.
Hope this helps.

Rob
