Hi, We are off to arrange soon, taking our own caravan. We've bought headlight convertors but unsure what we are doing with them. We have a 2019 Peugeot 3008 Hi Line and wondered if anyone knows whether we can adjust the direction of the headlight beam so don't need the deflectors? Or, if we do need deflectors, how do we know where to stick them and will they leave a sticky mess when removed? Because the lights come on automatically when the light is low I'm guessing we really should use them.
We've been abroad before with our own car but have avoided using deflectors because we don't do night driving, just kept some in the car just in case, but never needed. Slapped wrist I know!
Don't want to stick them on this time and do it wrong.
Thanks

Does it say in the manual that you can adjust the beam?
All fitting instructions come in the packet with deflectors, and yes they sometimes leave a sticky residue but easily removed with sticky stuff remover.
------------- XVI yes?

I could be wrong, however, as far as I know, the normal headlight adjustments that can be made is up and down to account for the load in the vehicle, in that heavier load such as more goods or passengers, would tilt the front of the vehicle upwards, and the headlights would need to be adjusted to point lower down.
I have not come across lateral adjustments as in side to side, not in the vehicles I have owned or rented.
The headlight reflectors and plastic covers are designed to point the lights to one side, depending whether it is LHD or RHD.
Therefore, deflectors are required for a RHD vehicle when driving on the right side of the road and vice versa.
The pack of deflectors you have bought should include placement instructions inside. Otherwise search the internet for information as there are loads.

The law is you must not dazzle oncoming drivers, if you are worried that you may dazzle them because your lights come on automatically on most cars you can switch that off.
I fitted them once and scratched the headlight removing them so haven't bothered since, on my car you can adjust the height of the dipped headlights,
I just lower mine down to the lowest position.
Some cars do have the facility to adjust the headlights to comply with driving in the EU but you would need to search to see if yours does.

OK, thanks. Will trawl the Internet for anything specific to our car and if not just lower down as you've said Saxo1. Would prefer not to stick anything on if can avoid it but will take with us just in case.

Quite a lot of cars automatically adjust the headlight beam when driving abroad, may with digital instruments also change the displays from MPH to KPH.

Not in my 2020 Kia Picanto or 2020 VW Crafter, both with manual up and down adjustments only.

When you remove them sticky residue can be removed with white spirit or similar. If you pour hot water on them first they will, come off easier.
You can't use them on cars with the HID lights.
Our Hyundai lights can be reset for driving on the right using the menu and steering wheel buttons.
It reminds you the beam pattern has been changed each time you start it!

We used them the first time we went to France and after that we never bothered as there is no law that states that they are mandatory. The offence as mentioned is dazzling oncoming traffic. We never travel at night so it was not an issue. Long tunnels could be an issue, but if using dip it may be okay.
It states in my Citroen manual that deflectors are not needed. I’ve never used them since glass headlamps finished. Leave your headlights on as normal & drive on a unlit French road. Nobody flashes you up. So not needed.
Used them once and the instructions were awful, thought I had them on correctly but was still getting flashed occasionally on the road from Calais to Normandy, they were a pain to get off as well!!
Fortunately my car has LED lights now so no longer need them, however if you're not driving at night I really wouldn't bother with them
Simply ask your local dealer if you need them, you may not. I have now had three cars that have not needed deflectors, they adjust themselves to oncoming traffic……..Clever eh!
