Our new car has 16 in alloy wheels with 4 studs. It has no spare i want to get a space saver.from Ebay.are these wheels make and model specific or generic?
Can i buy any 16in, 4 stud spacesaver?

The usual advice is that you should not use a space-saver tyre whilst towing .
It has been argued that you might invalidate your insurance by doing so, but most people think it is unlikely to actually cause a problem.
Our Volvo came with a spacesaver tyre. Rather than take the chance, we bought a full size alloy. Not cheaper but gave peace of mind. For the past couple fo years we have had 4x4s so no issue with spacesavers.
Our Tucson came without one.,The dealer got us a full size steel wheel and tyre with jack and spanner for £180. It is brand new.
It has a spare wheel well so we removed the plastic oddments tray and put the wheel in. Our neighbour has a Tucson too and bought a spacesaver for hers.
You need to get the correct one for your car.

It is considered to be safe by, motoring organisations, to tow a caravan with a space saver wheel fitted to any axle on the car provided your vehicle handbook doesn't say otherwise.

If the vehicle is AWD probably not a good idea to use a spacesaver even for a short distance, but I would assume that all AWD would not have a space saver. Just a can of the useless puncture fluid or a full size spare.
Sorry for causing confusion, it’s not a towcar it’s a Kia Picanto, it was the only car related section to post it in.

The wheel shop £140, plenty on Ebay under £50 but very few Picantos have 16” wheels.
I have found one for £30 and the seller assures me it is compatible.
Our Mini has no spare just the repair kit. No room for one anyway. It would take up a big chunk of the boot!
I don't think any of the BMW Minis have them. Neighbours daughter had an early model with no spare either.
It saves quite a bit of money and weight for manufacturers.

Here's another fly in the ointment on space saver/aftermarket spare situation! My car comes with a space saver wheel as standard, BUT if I use it, the full size wheel it replaces won't fit in the spare storage space (under boot floor on a carrier), it then has to go 'somewhere else' in the car!
If boot full that's a bad enough problem of fitting it in, if on the other hand all 7 seats in use, then there is no boot space to reorganise to fit it in, it just won't go in the car! Brilliant concept - NOT!
If you are going to get a space saver spare, MAKE SURE, you have boot space for the punctured full size wheel you have removed!

Ours is an AWD.
The handbook warned against using a spacesaver whilst towing (or towing whilst employing a spacesaver).
However, the default item supplied with the car is/was a spacesaver - I insisted on a full-sized spare as part of the purchase.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
