What is the MTPLM of the caravan?

Do you have a B+E licence?

How many seats do you need?

If you can come back with more information we may be able to suggest some suitable cars to look for.

For £3k the badge doesn't matter. A 4x4 is likely to be a project/headache.

Work out the size/weight of car you need to tow your van and spend time finding the best you can.

Hyundai Tucson/Kia Sportage would do nicely too. Diesel preferably, but the prices of older diesels like these is rising and they are getting harder to get hold of.

Agree with Bessie that the cheapest to buy and run is likely to be a family sized hatchback or estate car such as those she has suggested. Skoda Superb or Toyota Avensis, or small MPVs such as VW Touran or Vauxhall Zafira would also be worth looking at. At that budget, the specific model will be less important than condition and the presence or otherwise of a service history (walk away if it doesn't have one).
