We are driving to Swanage for a week at Ulwell Cottage in a couple of weeks time on our first caravan holiday, I was wondering if anyone could advise me of the best route towing a van into Swanage is it best through Corfe Castle or via ferry as I remember from previous visits that the roads can be quite narrow.

I think the ferry route would have the advantage when towing, as (if coming from the Wareham direction) you could potentially face several hill starts on the short uphill section into the centre of Corfe Castle, depending on time of day and traffic (road and pedestrian - there's a well-used crossing just after the left hand bend near the top!).   Also from Sandbanks and Studland you'd have no need to tow through Swanage, though that wouldn't be a major problem.

Think I would drive round to be honest. Yes it's a little tight through corfe but the ferry approach is very uneven and I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting on without bottoming my van on the ground. You often hear cars scraping parts as they drive on.

Have told through Corfe Castle without any problems in the past. Wouldn't want to take the van on the ferry.

Corfe should be ok with a bit of forward planning. You certainly should be able to cope with hill starts. Using the ferry with potential queueing at peak times seems a bit uneccessary.

Cheers for the advice guys, I was nudging towards the Corfe route tbh. I also thought about turning off the main A351 (I think) just before Corfe under the railway viaduct and head into Swanage on the Studland road, but Im unsure of the width of this road.
