Hi there,
Well we've gone and done it...bought our first van,a 2008 lunar quasar 524 that will be towed by a mk1 Skoda superb 1.9tdi130.
Has anybody towed with this vehicle or combination, any thoughts.
Never towed a caravan before but always tow large trailers behind transits at work so hoping it's not to dissimilar.
Many thanks
Simon.
The Skoda Superb - 1.9 TDI aut. and the Lunar Quasar 524 with a laden weight of 1350 kg is a moderate match, only for experienced (caravan) drivers. not sure if this is the right match, it is 77% but still boarder line if info right.
I can guarantee you wont even know the van is on the back, we towed 1500 kg van with our mk1 Skoda superb, 1.9 tdi 130,returned over 35 mpg all day long with the van, and 60 plus on a long run solo, on a solo run from France back to Scotland, we filled to the brim in Lyon and got back on a tank, 5 up and a full boot, when filling if you use the fuel nozzle to push the bit of plastic, its a vent, just inside the neck down slightly, you will get another gallon in.
Scotland to Newquay with the van and still a quarter of a tank, just load the van sensibly with heavy items over the axel, 77% is only 2% over the guide of 75% and its only a guide, remember to pump your rear tyres up for towing look inside the filler flap for pressures.
these are your van weights
Mass in Running Order (Kg) - 1160
Maximum Technical Permissible Laden Mass (Kg) - 1370
maximum nose weight 65 KG
We have the 2ltr Octavia Elegance and tow all over France for up to 3 months at a time. The van is about 1200kg laden and we never know it is on there.
We have obtained 69.8mpg ( I desperately wanted 70mpg!) and 43mpg towing.
These figures include travels over the Massif Centrale, the Pyrennees and also the Alps.
In fairness we did have to change down to 4th gear when approaching the Mont Blanc Tunnel.
For your set up there will be absolutely no problem
Thanks for the replys, that's just what I was hoping to here. Last year did Lincolnshire to St austell, full boot, roof box and a small trailer....and only used half a tank. This year will be the first time with a caravan going the same distance so expecting to use a little more fuel.

Yes you are correct it is 85%. But telling someone to tow ok within the max tow weight of a car with a 1900 engine is in my view bonkers. End of the day its up to the driver and the outfit he is pulling. Tow car sites are a gen rule and not law, but what do they know nothing according to many! i suspect the 75% came about because of its lack of weight and power.

the 1.9 130 tdi goes like the proverbial off a shovel, and will tow 1500 all day long returning 35 plus in 5th
Quick update..picked the van up Tuesday and all I can say is car pulled it no problem at all, plenty of power and then some..very stable and returned 35mpg on the run home.
Bring on Cornwall...

I thought it was 85%
Its 85% for newbies, but that's just a guide
Bob
That car comes in at 75% with an Amber warning.
But in your world thats safe, in mine and many others it is boarder line being AMBER on tow match sites. I know its only a guide line, but a guide line being ignored in a court of law is totally differant, Just like a H&S Guide line, is only a guide line, but you go against that guide line you will find yourself in the S**t
As for Simonr75 am glad he picked up the van and had a safe journey. But please remember that this match is not a perfect match within the guide lines.
