Had a Towbar fitted yesterday to my new towcar, and knew the risk before I decided which one to go for, but unfortunately they interfere with the reversing sensors. Budgets were restricted.. I can turn them off from inside the car, and not to much of an issue with the caravan on the back but for everyday driving its bugging me already. Is there anyway of eliminating the problem at all that?? Maybe moving the electric plug bracket to a different position?? Anyone had this issue before? I appreciate I'm probably clutching at straws, but got to be worth a try.

Presumably you have twin sockets for your van..... if these are mounted either side of the ball on a thinnish plate I would try bending them back toward the bumper. Might also work if they are both mounted to one side.------------- Grahame

It's just single electric 13 pin. Did wonder if it was the socket that maybe the issue. I'll see how easy it is to slightly bend it then if that solves it I can maybe look at relocating it possibly?

It's very unlikely that the towball is being detected by the reversing sensors but as many previous posts ask about this question I always state to ensure that the towing socket is suitably placed, preferably under the bumper.

Will upload a pic tonight. Is there brackets that can attach underneath for the electrics that will hold them out of the way??

I had this problem on one of our cars but it didn't happen every time I selected reverse. It turned out to be the rubber cover over the tow ball that caused the problem, if it was perfectly straight there was no problem but if it was slightly askew because I had knocked it when loading the boot it was detected by the sensor. It might be worth trying the car with the rubber cover removed to see if it makes a difference.

That looks like a normal 12N 7 pin socket, not a 13 pin Euro socket.
What car is it on?

It's a 13 pin I had fitted on a Citroen c5 tourer. Is there anyway of moving them at all??? Tried the rubber cover, took it off and no different which is why I'm thinking the socket next.

Just ordered a flip up electric bracket which I think I can hide behind the bumper. Just going to chance it and hopefully this will eliminate the reversing sensor problem!!

In what way do you mean? It all looks and works ok, just in the way of the sensors. I knew the risk when I ordered it but couldn't afford to go any higher in price.
