Hi, off on holiday soon with the caravan and hope someone can offer a little advice on the route from Bolton to Tywyn, Gwynedd. We have been to Caernarfon once or twice before and have always taken the coastal route. I've just taken a look on Google maps and as Tywyn is much further down the coast, the route is across country - A483/A494 through Bala. Has anyone any experience of this route; is it okay for towing? Thanks in advance!
Hi bit of a hard one this with towing a van, however if it was me with our van from Bury, i would go M60, M62, M6, M56, A55 (south) to junction of A550, left onto a A550 and then follow for A5104, to A5, then A494 to Bala and Dolgellau, then left on to A470 south (Machynlleth) between the hills and then right onto the B4405, into Tywyn, there is the sort of coast road the A493 from Dolgellau, but never travelled this route. The A5104, A5, A494 and A470 are good roads, with B4405, being narrow still two lane though.
In my opinion the road south from Dolgellau and then the B4405 past Tal-y-Llyn is a far superior road. It can be narrow in places and a little bendy, but just take it easy and enjoy the views. The coast road from Dol is very narrow
and bendy and quite hilly. I deliver to The co-op in Tywyn with 45ft trailers and prefer the B road.
Hi Everyone. Just a little update on our route. We followed everyones good advice and took the route posted. The journey was easy, with hardly any hold ups. Thank you all for taking the time out to write and help out. Best Regards Diane
