I use Google Earth to look at what might be the more difficult parts of any routes. Then you can go back to the Sat Nav and take out those parts you want to avoid.

(I thing CC access statements are to do with access to facilities rather than the site)

A decent map book and google maps/street view for any bits that look like they may be difficult.

I will use a sat nav for en route directions but not planning.
