hi, just a quick check, what should i expect from my outfit, i have a freelander 1.8 gs petrol with all mods done i.e uprated head gasket, inline thermostat, and ill be towing a swift windrush520, 23ft with a max mtpl of 1500, ie upgrade to the gts 417 i beleive should i be all good with this outfit many thanks in advance ive tried calculating everything but its all beyond me,cheers
If it's the 1.8 petrol version with a manual gearbox, the minimum kerbweight is 1427 kgs. therefore the caravan with an MTPLM of 1500 kgs. would be just over 105% match.
Well the advice that the two major clubs suggest is that the match should be around 85% for novices but you can exceed this limit to 100% if you are an experienced tower but you should however proceed with caution. As your match would exceed the 100% recommendation it is suggested that the match is not compatible. Below is a link from the Camping and Caravanning Club that you may find helpful as a general guide.
Max tow weight is 2tonnes I think so legal provided test passed before '97 but as stated a very poor match. With that engine I would guess you would have 44tonne trucks passing you on motorways that are even slightly uphill.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
