Our 130ps tdci 54 plate Mondeo Estate was a brilliant towcar in terms of stability, comfort and economy.

It was only after it was sold on to a work colleague at 80,000 miles that the dual mass flywheel and injectors needed replacing.

I believe later models are now sorted.

Many smooth modern diesels have dmf's also many have problems, a friends 55 plate passat 2.0d 140 has broken down twice due to faulty injectors. My older 2001 passat was the most unreliable car I have owned, the best being a laguna! my current volvo uses the mondy engine and has had the dmf replaced ( it didn't fail but i noticed a noise when de clutching) I wouldn't hesitate buying a mondeo diesel, fantastic free revving powerful engine.
