After his years of loving Landrovers, (we have had a few old ones over the years), and being all nostalgic and buying a 1987 110 defender in January this year, the reality of actually giving up the luxury of a newish 4x4 terracan to replace it with an 03 plate defender did not live up to the pedestal that Landy's had been put upon when it became the main every day car.  He has chosen to travel to work on his 100cc scooter even in the rain to avoid using the Landy.

He is really annoyed with himself and just cannot explain why he doesn't like it.  It seemed to tick all the boxes for the needs we have with caravan, kids, dog, bikes etc, but he cannot face doing the towing with it to the New Forest in the summer.  The enjoyment shall we say is gone.  He says he must be getting old and has got too used to the comfort of new cars these days.  (Also it didn't help that I was not the least bit interested in driving it - I've got my own car so don't really need to, although I used to use the terracan if I needed to take the kids and bikes out)

We should be getting the price confirmed of the sale of the Landy to a garage on Monday, and provided we haven't lost too much money then we could be taking more trips to look at Santa Fe's by Tuesday.......................

Don't bother with the Shogun, They can't pull the skin off a rice pudding! Go for either a Landcruiser (Colarado or Amazon) or Hyundai Terracan. I wouldn't go for the Santa Fe either if you are looking to tow up to 2 tonnes, it wouldn't manage it. The Terracan would along with either of the Toyota's.

We had an xtrail snowy and really liked it.  Had it from being a demonstrator and kept it for 3 years and only changed it to the disco when we needed to tow a big plant trailer for renovations and building works to the house we now live in.  Mr PP luckily can do loads of stuff himself which saved us a fortune.  We only managed with the disco for a few weeks as it kept getting stuck down BIL's farm where we were taking a lot of the hardcore etc.  We found it didn't have the diff lock it was advertised as. Changed that for trooper, but gearbox had problems so let it go.

The Terracan that came next has only just gone pinkfloyd.  After the initial shock of it looking pig ugly, it has been a fab 4x4.  Towing and driving in general, but the boot isn't big enough to get anything else in other than the dog cage (7 month old lab). The £435 road tax was a bit of a killer aswell as it was a 56 plate, only just caught it unlucky.  Our caravan is way overloaded if we don't put stuff in the boot of the car.

Simpler and cheapest option would have been to get rid of the dog, and the kids for that matter - but what can you do. Nothings ever simple!! Eventually when the dog gets older and calmer we can dispense with the cage.  Then we won't have this problem.

The Terracan was definately top whack, it was an auto which might make the difference.  It changed from mar 2006, ours was a Nov 06.  Mr PP knows the ins and outs of it all.  It changed though after we bought it and didn't realise, but we soon did when the road tax came up for renewal.  The tax band was capped at K for any pre mar06 regardless of the emissions.  Thats why we've been quite restricted as everything we are looking at either needs to be the lower emissions under 225 if its post mar 06, or it needs to be an earlier model.  Think lots of people have cottoned onto this as people seem to be holding onto them.  It was a great car for what we wanted at the time, but wanted a bigger boot now.  Also the roof bars weight was really restricted according to Mr PP, not much more than a sack of spuds, so it wasn't an option to put a bike rack or luggage on it without messing about with new roof bars and fixing them.  (Of course though he was on a sales pitch for the Landy, which I think is why he is so naffed off that he doesn't like it after going on about it so much).

Beware if you get one with the built in dvd system like we had, it never worked properly (kept eating discs), but luckily it was under warantee.  It still took nearly a year to get a replacement in the end.  We found out that loads had had to be replaced.  Even the new one wasn't that great and scratched the edges.

Santa Fe should sort out our towing needs now as only really the caravan.  And we oh so love the fake plastic wooden trim on the interior.  Just like the terracan...

AARRGGHH!! Get down to the dealership and buy it back!!

We love Tessie the Two Ton Terracan - she is the bestest car we have ever had. If a bit, well, plastic in places.

I bet they won't have sold it on, will they?

I see the wife has been busy posting on here i wish i could be happy with the landy but im not,  there is nothing wrong with it but like she said i had the best of both before a new 4x4 and an old landy to play in. I just hope i have not cost us too much money, the new sante fe was loveley to drive but not sure if it would be the best move as i always end up with tools,chainsaws etc in the boot and it would be a shame to scuff it all up.

I think i shall just get the landy sold then have a look around for a landcruiser or pathfinder i have another car (Renault Espace) that i keep at work so i can use that for now or the scooter or the wifes car aslong as i keep it clean.
