Hi, im new on here, but am intrested in which of the used citreon berlingos between the years of 03-08 would be able to tow a pennine fiesta folding camper 2005yr model? i have been driving my focus estate 18tdi tor this, and it as been fine, but my car is 12yrs old now so i need to change soon..i was also looking at the vauxhall zafira, but think the running cost would be to high..as i need 5 seats and boot space for the dog crate.as i dont understand the towing weighs-brake weighs etc. many thanks in advance.
We have the 1.6 multi space and tow relatively easily the countryman,
Pound for pound the same unit no real probs , the normal drag on steep hills but comfortable to ride in and a steady tow

hi,thanks for your reply...could u tell me the year & model please so i have a idea of which is good..thanks.
I`ve an XTR 110 which easily pulls ole Daisy Daystar. max tow capacity according to the towcar website is 1600kg and towball weight 64kg which is a tad higher than the handbook says. No probs at all.

Hi peterws
think you would be wise checking your car towing weights again.
Why I say this is I own a Berlingo and max towing weight is 1300kg for the 110hp 1.6
Its the manufacturer brochure or handbook one needs to consult for definitive info. Berlingo3 max tow weight is indeed 1300kg for some models & less for others like 7 seater. Berlingo3 from 2008 introduction had max towbar weight of 55kg but current car now has 70kg limit as chassis has been redesigned.
There is a site which has been quoted on here which gives more amenable figures (lol) . . . ! Blimey, I`ll have to invent one myself . . http://www.tow-trust.co.uk/towbar/. . I imagine my towbar fitter used the information on the link. That`s what`s stamped on the ball! But am I seriously to worry over a kg here or there? Like the weight of a Yorkshire Terrior . . .
Happy Days!

do yourself a favor and keep off the 1.6 diesel engine they eat turbo after turbo as the engine is underpowered and relies heavily on the turbo. go on any Peugeot/Citroen forum and type in 1.6 and read the horror story's. in fact ford has just brought a field update regarding the 1.6 diesel focus saying that if the turbo goes the only way to fix it properly is to replace the whole engine.
Another good piece of mis-information from Bob...Provided 1.6 diesel as currently used by Citroen/Peugeot/Ford/Volvo etc is serviced at correct mileage with correct oil used, ie fully synth & low saps as appropriate & correct drain procedure used then turbo will last life of engine.
Premature failure is due to sludge build up in turbo oil feed pipe caused by failure to observe any part of manufacturer service procedure. Certainly one should always go for a car with full main dealer service history but this is good advice anyway.
A lasting repair after turbo failure on any diesel engine requires a very lengthy repair including sump removal & at commercial rates it may indeed be cheaper to replace whole engine.
