When I fitted the tow bracket to my Audi, the software in the on-board computer had to be changed to enable the dash lights to operate - no change of flasher or other hardware.
I took the car to have the louder bleeper fitted and after an hour of waiting I was told that the car was finally done and paid the £15. Yes, the louder bleeper was fitted but was active without any trailer electrics connected which meant that the fitter had only connected the bleeper to the vehicle's indicator instead of the the 12N supply . I refused to take the car away and insisted that they do the job properly which took a further 90 minutes (hour and half) to do, but finally the job was actually finally completed and operating properly as it should. I thought that by having a towbar and electrics fitted by a professional towbar fitting company the job would be done right first time. How wrong I was.
I have been caravanning 40 years now and have always fitted and wired my own plus others for friends, you will be surprised the number of people who have also got me to rectify wiring on ones fitted by professionals.
had you paid the extra to have a proper volvo wiring loom fitted it would have been right to start with. if your car is still in warrenrty then i hope you dont have any problems with electrics as the non oem towbar electrics will invalidate it
No my Volvo isn't under warranty as it is over four years old but I had a quote from a Volvo dealer first to have a towbar fitted with twin electrics fitted but they only do the single 13 pin plug which meant I would have to buy an adaptor on top of the £850 they wanted. Besides, Volvo don't actually make towbars or wiring looms and neither do any other vehicle manufacturers, they are manufactured independently to which the dealer adds about £150 just for the dealer badge stuck on it. At the end of the day I just want to be able to tow my caravan and not prepared to slash out at silly dealer prices, besides I don't have that sort of money anyway.
I have the opposite problem the bleeper is so bloody LOUD it gives me a headache, makes my ear drums kind of vibrate, is right in the back of my seven seater next to the baby's carseat and we have now taken to only indicating at the latest moment possible, which defeats the object of it being for safety. But seriously how LOUD does the damn thing has to be? I actually dread going away now because the noise is so horrendous and I arrive to set up with a banging headache and I've had to listen to the kids all moaning about the racket too as well as waking the baby up so we have to listen to her crying. It's so bad I am considering buying ear defenders for the baby and myself. I actually think its probably damaging to her hearing at the level and pitch it is at.
