Load car and van as if going away, go to your local weighbridge and see what the combined weight is, you're allowed to do this at any time, or if you're not certain get a friend to drive who past there test before the cut of date and go with them, I am confident you will be well within the 3500kg allowed

But if the cars mam and the vans max weight added together is more than 3500kg regardless of how its loaded you cant tow it unless you have a b + e licence. Im fortunate I managed to get a caravan thats within my passats towing capacity and keeps me below the 3500kg gross train weight limit or id be sitting the test too.
