Hi, I think that you might like to consider a Kangoo diesel if you really want a small  4X4. My son-in-law has one and it tows his 4berth Avondale like a dream. However - do you really want 4x4. I tow our Abbey gts212 with a Xsara 1.9tdi, and have no problems AND I managed to average 39mpg between Devon and Shropshire, sticking at the legal limits, last time out.

Good luck and don't be suckered into getting something too big and too thirsty.

Cheekyboots, we've just come to the conclusion that there's no way we can get our Grand Scenic + caravan (MRO 1044 Kg), two children and all the stuff we need to stay within the gross train weight (3050 Kg).    The pulling power seems to be fine, but I just discovered that as a spare wheel is an optional extra, Renault don't include this on their kerbweight figure - also the sunroof (5Kg), towbar(24Kg) and so it goes on.   So, we could tow the caravan OK, but not have any spare load capacity for clothes, awning etc etc.

We're putting off buying the caravan for a year now, as we have a new car to buy as well (keeping the Scenic as it's such a great, comfortable, economical family car - it just can't tow anything).

Good luck!
