helenandtim was talking about the centre of gravity for the whole outfit. If you put the whole outfit on a see saw so that it was balanced, then the centre of gravity would be at the pivot (centre of see saw).

I loved the idea of the trapezium stabiliser, didn't realise it was now illegal.

The experienced caravanner would not try to make up time downhill and also anticipate approaching gradients so as to be in the right gear for ascending

That is probably the same gear as should be used for descending the same gradient
