I also think extension mirrors are a necessity; I want to have best possible visibility available all round me - I don't want to get hit because someone was in (one of) my blind spots, so I'll do whatever I can to reduce those blind spots....
Additionally, my extension mirrors have (on two or three occasions) served the same purpose as a cat's whiskers - if my mirrors can't get through the gap, neither will the caravan - of course, I only inched forward each time, so I didn't even damage the mirrors!

Hi,

We don't have any towing mirrors with our 110 Defender as the mirrors are a bit different from the average car..... they are moveable...... and do go out a very long way..... but with my Range Rover Classic I would need towing mirrors as they are fixed and I wouldn't get the right view even though the Range Rover is a little wider than the 110.

Be careful of those 110 mirrors when solo. The maximum they may project beyond the widest part of the vehicle or combination is 20 cm (~8 inches) or 25 cm (~10 inches) depending on with which standards the mirror comply. (20 cm for 2006 and earlier)

If the mirrors are adequate for a caravan that's substantially wider than your towcar, they'll almost certainly be unlawful in that position when solo - so you need to move them back in when you unhitch.

HTH,

Geoff

My car like so many others these days has motoriosed mirror cowlings that can be folded in. I use some excellent Millenco Grand Aero mirrors but they ain't that stable at speeds over 50, the cowlings tend to move and the image is less than perfect. To improve the situation I have tried wrapping insulating tape around the area where it pivots with some success.

I have seen somewhere a strap that fitted between the mirror and a sucker disk stuck onto the wing, I think they were made by a German company, anybody got a link?

Dave.
