I personally wouldn't advise any vehicle with automatic transmission for towing and the reasons are that when you are going down hill, with a manual gearbox you can slow the caravan down behind by changing to a lower gear which is safer on wet roads etc. With an automatic gearbox you can't do this so you have to constantly apply the brakes which is not only more dangerous but more unnecessary wear and tear on both the caravan and the towing vehicle. Vehicles with automatic transmission have to be fitted with oil coolers too which is also another unnecessary expense and as they do less miles to the gallon it can can be an expensive choice in the long run. It's all down to choice really but I'm just putting my point of view regarding manual vs automatic.

Now that we have found an auto for you what about load requirements, the Audi s boot is small along with the Seat and Golf so that leaves the Octavia as the winner with a massive boot area, and it will tow your van as it does mine.

You have 2 choices hatch or estait, 3 engine sizes 4 if your going new the 1.9 tdi 105 bhp chipped to 130 bhp is the best all rounder followed by the 2ltr 170 tdi if you want fun with extra power, the 2ltr 140tdi has known turbo problems
