Police etc would not check noseweight only axle weights. They would not detach caravan from car during a check, nor would assessor check noseweight after a crash, how could they anyway with any legal standing? Noseweight varies all the time.
If you are not happy with noseweight at 115kg then weigh it somewhere else & you may find it is 95kg or try another noseweight gauge for a different weight reading.
There is far too much made of this on forums & too many caravanners worry about this needlessly. First match car to caravan. A 1500kg caravan is probably not suitable for car that only allows 70kg noseweight, then get noseweight more or less at limit of towcar or up to around 100kg & leave it at that. If you always load caravan much the same way then no need to check noseweight again, ever.
yes, seen it done at the weigh bridge at saxsondale Island, on the A52, A46 Junction, & Sleaford, Leatherhead
They weighed the car and outfit as one, then unhitched the van from car and checked both seperate inc nose weight.
So dont think this can't happen to you because it can.
Another tip is make sure if you service your van, put the service sticker on the offside of the A frame, thats another thing they look for, when driving past you on a motorway, dual carraige way.
I would guess they would only do that if outfit was plainly nose heavy to the extent car rear axle was overloaded anyway. Nobody is going to get nicked specifically for excess towbar download because it cannot be checked accurately enough. If download is too heavy then there will be axle overload which what you will get nicked for.
I wonder how many drivers who don't read internet forums actually check noseweight of their caravan/horsebox/bacon sarnie trailer/boat trailer etc?
