Join the ever growing club and change it for a Kia Sorento. Only had one problem with it and that was the cruise control!

I looked at the Xtrail but I don't think it has a chassis and the spare wheel is on the back door.

As a complete diversion from all the 4x4s suggested thus far, how about the new VW Passat?

The 2.0 TDi has a Kerbweight of 1648Kg, which if your van is 1375Kg gives an 83% match. It has a manufacturers maximum towing weight of 1800Kg

I've no experience of the new Passat, but I've noticed that it is heavier than a lot of "lighter" 4x4s such as the Freelander, RAV4, X-Trail etc.

Just a thought....

anybody towed with a jeep cheroke 2.8crd 2004 thinking of buying one but never towed with auto betore which is best for towing auto or manual ?

Transit tows just as well as a Defender and they both get up to around 80mph-ish before it feels like the doors will fall off, plus get a LWB crewbus and you can keep making babies until you have 15 of the dear little souls !!

Not got a 2.8, but tow with a 2.5 '03 Cherokee-love it. We tow a Quasar 525- weighs around 1250 empty & the Jeep pulls it fine all over the place-get on the motorway in 5th gear & the cruise control just keeps it steady-no need to change down for any hills on motorways. Any questions, just ask
