I towed with both a 1.6 petrol Grand Scenic and a 1.9 DCi 120 Scenic until I realised that you can only tow 950kg when the cars were full, so can that count as 2 negatives for the Renault?

We towed an R reg VW Golf estate 1.9 TDI 90 bhp with an Elddis Whirlwind .
Have you tried swapping these around to see if the car can pull the van?
I wondered why I couldn't see the van in my extension mirrors. Kept telling my OH that it was too foggy, and went back home. Had a devil of a job driving into the garage though!

By far the worst we ever towed with was a Rover 820....hopeless towcar. Best by far is our current one the Fantastic Toyota Landcruiser VX...amazing.

Best towcar for me is the current one - a 3.0 V6 diesel Signum - the engine is out of the Izuzu Trooper and gets me up Telegraph hill on the M5 at 60
The worst tow car I ever had was my TD4 Freelander Sport (a misnomer if there evere was one) - hopelesslessy underpowered and a shocking ride.

The Trooper was a great towcar. I had one for 7 years & did 100K miles in it. One of the best ever ......

Odd ..... the 4JX1 3.0D common rail diesel engine from the MK4 Trooper is an inline four pot, not a V6 (from introduction in 1998 to end of production in June 2003).

It has an Izuzu badge on the engine and engine bay peripherals so it may be an engine not used in the UK?

Isuzu are just about the biggest diesel engine manufacturer on the planet. They make loads of different engines. Unlike the Frontera range (in the UK made at the Vauxhall light trucks plant in Luton), all Troopers were made in Japan. All the diesel ones from 1998 onwards had a four pot common rail engine (I had one for 7 years)..
The petrol engines in Troopers were a V6, IIRC.
