The Antara is beginning to look like a good option. With the car fully laden and the van minus payload we have a 79% ratio. As we don’t take much with us I’m hoping we can keep the ratio under 90%. We tend to use fully serviced pitches so don’t need aquaroll or wastemaster. We have a lightweight porch awning which travels in the car.
We have all our tenting equipment in the van, lightweight pans, melamine plates. The van comes with a tv and solar panel so already included in the weight. We are adding motor movers so that will take up payload, battery, front cover.

Huge towing capacity, great spec, very capable cars.
A low mileage, late model W should be affordable in your budget, you might have to travel to pick one up though.

I used to have one, and as the old saying goes, you would never have know the van was back there.

Why not take your antara to a weigh bridge and see what it actually weighs, it might be heavier than you think, my cars true weight is more than 100 kgs heavier than the brochure weight.

Yes, the Antara towing capacity is fine, it’s the kerb weight/MTPLM ratio that is a bit dodgy. It’s illegal to tow over 100% ratio and we would be 97% fully laden!

Yes, we are definitely doing that, but we will do it once we have the van as we are legal to tow it home, just not sure how much of the payload we use.
