A victim of the recent floods up here in Hull was my Renault Espace and I am now left with having to by a new tow car. We don't really need a 7 seater any more so we are looking at possibly a saloon or something you can sit up in. After having 3 french cars on the trot, I don't want another one, the parts are expensive and they are a pain to work on (so my mechanic says!).

I think turbodiesel 2 litre 2 wheel drive  would be a good idea. Isn't the tax going up on the petrol 4x4's?

The choice seems to be endless, what about Japanese or far east cars, Kia etc are they any good. Also, whats the best British tow car you can get.

I'm looking to spend between 5-6 grand so something on an 02 plate is about as you as I can hope for. I going to tow an 02 Lunar Clubman

Ideas & recommendations please.

Tax is only up on newer motors. My diesel disco, 3.9 petrol Range Rover, and 1.8 Daewoo all cost the same to tax.

There is only one best british towcar, and that comes with a green oval badge on the front, although Im sure the big vauxhalls and fords make adequate tow cars :) I agree with steering clear of the french stuff, although the diesel engines in Peugot & Citroen have few peers. Renault I am sure is actually french for POS

Personally on 6 grand I would be looking at a discovery (300tdi or V8 & gas), or a gas converted P38 model Range Rover, simply because when out shopping for motors age is the final factor I take into consideration, I dont care if its an 07 plate, or a 1972 L plate motor as long as it does what I need it too and has been reasonably well looked after in the past.
