I removed the panel alongside the door when I ran the towball electrics (not without damage to the plastic plugs), it would've helped if I had the little tool they use in garages to prise out the plastic clip/plug thingies. I've just got hold of a Terrano workshop manual for mine (95 2.4 Maverick shape) and I've also got a CD here somewhere for the later models. I'll have a look at them. As for squeaking? All that's behind the panel is the windscreen wiper arrangement. Let you know if I find anything that can help you.

I had the same problem and found oout by trial and error that it was coming form the spare wheel mounting on the back door, I solved the problem by pushing thick foam between the wheel and body work.
